It's Academic launched in 2006 to fill the void of a lack of information being available to the Hong Kong community about what dates schools which offer International syllabuses were holding different information evenings and events open to parents and the wider Hong Kong community. The magazine focus is secondary schools in Hong Kong that offer international syllabuses to Hong Kong students.  These schools include: International Schools English Schools Foundation (ESF) schools selected Hong Kong local schools that use English as the medium of instruction in their teaching. The problem for Hong Kong people is that these different schools operate on different academic years and use different examination boards.  Even schools using the same exam syllabuses may have different academic years, for example the Australian International School uses the Southern hemisphere academic year for the International Baccalaureate (IB) whereas most other schools offering the IB use the Northern hemisphere year.

The result is a great deal of uncertainty in the Hong Kong community as to what the school year is, and when the important dates are.  ITS decided that the implementation of a comprehensive calendar bringing the information from each of these different schools to a single place would be of great benefit to the Hong Kong community.

People will now to be able to come to a single source for information about dates and events that concern the English speaking academic secondary world who are interested in international syllabuses in Hong Kong.  ITS will make every effort to have the calendar as up to date as possible.  Please notify ITS if any errors are found or if there is a relevant academic event missing that you think should be included in the calendar.

Its Academic though is much more than just a calendar.  The magazine includes articles and information that is of great relevance to the international school community.  There will be regular study tips, articles on topics such as 'choosing a university, studying overseas etc and help for students with suggestions for locations and topics for coursework and assignments.
